Tobacco is the annual plant. Its roots are situated deep in the ground but the adult plant may achieve (in dependence on the sort and conditions) three meters in height.
The history of tobacco

Tobacco is the present of gods. At least the ancient tribes of South America thought this way. They considered that gods are fond of tobacco smoke that is why shamans and priests had to smoke pipes from time to time breathing out the smoke into the sky, so that it would rise to gods. In some tribes tobacco leaves were put into the fire as the sign of gracefulness and honour to gods for their patronage. Very often tobacco was the method of the dialogue when the smoking of the pipe meant the end of any war between tribes.
Tobacco refers to solanaceae. It is considered to be one of the most popular in the flora world and has about 2500 kinds besides tobacco. For example it includes potatoes and tomatoes as well as mandrake. There are a lot of kinds of tobacco but to produce cigars only Nicotiana tabacum is used.
People consider that this type of tobacco appeared in the result of cross between decorative type of tobacco Nicotiana Silvestris and Nicotiana Tomentosiformis. Indians cultivated it to use with ritual purposes. With nomads it was transmitted to Brazil and Colombia. And it goes to Cuba later than to other countries of the South America. However Cuba had the best conditions for its cultivation.
