Tobacco production

When Christopher Columbus discovered America, humanity received four plants that played an important role in the economical and industrial development of humanity. These four plants are tomatoes, potatoes, paprika and tobacco. Everybody likes tomatoes and potatoes but let's pay attention to tobacco, as there are a lot of points of view on these products.

Tobacco is the annual plant. Its roots are situated deep in the ground but the adult plant may achieve (in dependence on the sort and conditions) three meters in height.

The modern society is divided into two parts: those who don’t smoke and those who do smoke. And the second part increases rapidly.

Since tobacco was brought to Europe from America, it became the favourite smoking substance.

The attitude to tobacco is different and it changed during centuries. First it was the sign of prestige. Then it was the sign of commoner, later tobacco was divided into tobacco of good quality and bad quality. So, the attitude changed but it was always popular.

During the long practice more than 100 sorts were discovered and all of them were got from the two main sorts. This is the Nicotiana tabacum and Nicotiana rustica or the Virginia tobacco and the rural tobacco.
